Born in Ballybay, Co. Monaghan, Ireland in March 1892. 1901 Census - No Trace. 1911 Census - No Trace. He arrived in Ashton upon Mersey between 1910 and 1915 and was employed as a Labourer on Oaklea Farm, where he resided as a Boarder. Enlisted at Manchester in August 1915. His next of kin was given as Mr. Thomas Lane, Ashfield, Ashton upon Mersey. Posted to France in April 1916 and sailed from Folkestone. He was trained as a Bomber (Hand and rifle grenades). Originally buried by the Germans in the Berry-au-bac Cemetery, situated on the Bouvancourt to Revy Road, west of Rheims, but later reburied in the Jonchery-sur-Vesle Cemetery on the Marne. |
