Born during the December quarter 1894 in the Prescot R.D. - ref:8b/679, the son of.George & Elizabeth Ellen Moorse (nee Rogerson). 1901 Census - 33 Denton Street, Widnes, Lancashire. Son - aged: 6 - born: Widnes, Lancashire. Head of household - George Moores - Married - aged: 35 - occ: Loco Engine Driver - born: Ruthin, Flintshire, North Wales. Also Elizabeth E. Moores - Wife - aged:35 - born: St. Helens, Lancashire. Plus 3 siblings and his maternal grandfather. 1911 Census - 33 Denton Street, Widnes, Lancashire. Son - aged: 16 - occ: Engine Cleaner - born: Widnes, Lancashire. Head of household - George Moores - Married - aged: 44 - occ: Loco Engine Driver - born: Ruthin, Flintshire, North Wales. Also Elizabeth E. Moores - Wife - aged:44 - born: St. Helens, Lancashire. Plus 3 younger sisters. MIC - Posted to France on the 12th July 1915. Listed simply as L. Moores on Sale Cenotaph. CWGC states that he served in the 55th Division Base Depot, Royal Engineers. Also Commemorated on the St. Ambrose Church War Memorial, Widnes, Lancashire. Pension Records - Dependant - Mrs. E. Moores, 32 Christie Street, Halton View, Widnes, Lancashire. Awarded a weekly pension of 8/- w.e.f. the 31st July 1917. This was increased to 15/- w.e.f. the 18th November 1918, the reduced to 7/- w.e.f. the 30th December 1919. It states that he was killed by a bomb whilst a prisoner of war. |
