Born during the March quarter 1888 in the Goole R.D. - ref: 9c/738, the son of James & Kate McNally (nee Dalton). 1891 Census - 85 Moorland Road, Goole, Yorkshire. Son - aged: 3 - born: Goole, Yorkshire. Head of household - James McNally - Married - aged: 36 - occ: Plumber - born: Yougeth, Durham. Also - Catherine McNally - Wife - aged: 30 - born: Yougeth, Durham. Plus 4 siblings. 1901 Census - 21 Beverley Street, Goole, Yorkshire. Son - aged: 13 - born: Goole. Head of household - James McNally - Married - aged: 46 - occ: Foreman Plumber and Lead Burner - born: Felling, Durham. Also - Catherine McNally - Wife - aged: 40 - born: Bill Quay, Durham. Plus 9 siblings. 1911 Census - 39 Richard Grove, Longsight, Manchester. Son - aged: 23 - occ: Billiard Marker - born: Goole, Yorkshire. Head of household - James McNally - Married - aged: 56 - occ: Chemical Plumber - born: Felling, Durham. Also - Catherine McNally - Wife - aged: 50 - born: Bill Quay, Durham. Plus 9 siblings. A very good athlete and came 2nd in the one mile race at the Belle Vue Sports Day 1904. A member of both Longsight Football and Cricket Clubs from 1902 - 1906. He had been a Billiard Marker at the Stretford, Gorton & Longsight Billiard Halls, also at the Crosby & Exchange Hotels. Married - Mary E. Ashley during the December quarter 1911 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/329. Mary Ellen was born in 1890, the daughter of Joseph & Fanny Ashley of 2 South View, Stamford Street, Glebelands Road, Ashton upon Mersey. Joseph was employed as a Coal Carter. Transferred to the new Machine Gun Corps and sent for training at the MGC Training School at Belton Hall, Lincolnshire. His father died during the June quarter 1917 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/904 - aged: 61. Involved in the Battle of the Somme 1916 and the pursuit of the Germans back to their Hindenberg Line in 1917.
