Born during the December quarter 1896 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/826, the second son of Alexander & Catherine Miller (nee Mawdsley) 1901 Census - 3 Hyde Grove, Sale. Son - aged: 4 - born: Manchester. Head of household - Alexander Miller - Married - aged: 30 - occ: Engineer & Fitter at Linotype Works - born: Manchester. Also - Catherine Miller - Wife - aged: 29 - born: Ormskirk, Lancashire. Plus 2 brothers. 1911 Census - 23 Kelsall Street, Sale. Son - aged: 14 - Scholar - born: Manchester. Head of household - Alexander Miller - Married - aged: 41 - occ: Machine Fitter - born: Beswick, Manchester. Also - Catherine Miller - Wife - aged: 39 - born: Ormskirk, Lancashire. Plus 3 brothers. Employed at the Linotype Works, Broadheath. Killed during a German attack at Vimy Ridge. The 10th Cheshire Regiment served in the 75th Brigade, 25th Division. They landed in France on the 26th October 1915 and transferred to the 7th Brigade, 25th Division. Their very first action was in defence of Vimy Ridge. Death reported in the 13/06/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917. M.I. - "Fondly we loved him. He is dear to us still, but in death we must bend to God's holy will". |
