Enlisted at Altrincham.  The 3rd (Reserve) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment was
formed at Chester in August 1914.     A training unit, it remained in the
UK throughout the war, providing drafts for other battalions.   The
Regimental depot remained at Chester whilst the Battalion moved to war
station at Birkenhead, to play a part in the Mersey Defences.   Moved in
1917 to Newscastle, in May 1918 to Seaton Carew and in September 1918 to
West Hartlepool, as part of the Tees Garrison.    Repatriated in the Autumn
of 1918 and died of natural causes.  CWGC Headstone.
