Born on the 9th March 1896, his birth was registered during the June quarter 1896 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/177, the only son of Walter & lily Mostyn. 1901 Census - 5 Egerton Terrace, Altrincham. Son - aged: 5 - born; Altrincham. Head of household - Walter Mostyn - Married - aged:28 - occ: Blacksmith at Shoeing Forge - born: Altrincham. Also - Lily Mostyn - Wife - aged: 27 - born: Altrincham. Plus 2 younger sisters. 1911 Census - 11 Hamon Road, Altrincham. Son - aged: 15 - occ: Errand Boy - born: Altrincham. Head of household - Walter Mostyn - Married - aged:38 - occ: Blacksmith - born: Altrincham. Also - Lily Mostyn - Wife - aged: 36 - born: Altrincham. Plus 4 younger sisters. Attended the Stamford Park Road School. Member of St. Margaret's Bible Class. Employed by H.W. Kearns & Co. Engineers, Broadheath. Enlisted on the 9th November 1914. His service number indicates that he was a transfer in from men who were serving in the Machine Gun Corps. Married Lucy Dulson during the March quarter 1917 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/221. He was captured at Bourlon Wood on the 27th November 1917 and was taken to the PoW Camp at Limburg. Another record states that he was kept at MunsterIii PoW Camp previously at Laz Valencian PoW Camp. Death reported in the 11/01/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian, which states that he had been missing since 27/11/1917, but was now a wounded POW in Germany. There are two Pension Records for Harry - the first states H. Mostyn - No. 201195 - Tank Corps. Residing 155 Rectory View, Talke, Staffordshire. His second record states that he resided at 11 Hamon Road, Altrincham - dob 1896 - Date of Discharge 20/04/1919. Married Loss of left forefinger - 2 GSW left Thigh 30% disabled. NOT COMMEMORATED BY THE CWGC. |
