ref: 3a/72),  the eldest son of William Henry A.O. & Constance Jane
Mackenzie (nee Llewellyn).

aged: 31 - born: Staffordshire.    Plus 2 servants.    NO MENTION OF THE
"ORD" - later prefixed to their surname.

(brother) - aged: 18 - occ: Clerk - born: Urmston, Lancashire.

Entered Sedbergh School - No. 1332 in the School register, leaving in July
1904.   His brother, also attended Sedbergh School - No. 1665 on the School
Register.       Staunch Church people attending St. Mary's P.C. Bowdon.  
In order to educate her sons, Mrs. Mackenzie opened a ladies dress shop in
Altrincham.   His brother, Kenneth (a brilliant Ice Skater) opened an
engineering business in Broadheath.

Reported in "The South African" 14/10/1916.   -    Trained as an Engineer
and when war broke out, he was employed by Stewarts & Lloyds Ltd, South
Africa.   He joined Hartigans Horse at East London as a Trooper and went
through the South West African Campaign.  On the Regiment being disbanded,
he travelled to England at his own expense and in October 1915, was granted
a commission in the London Rgt.    He went to the front in March 1916 and
was slightly wounded twice.

He served throughout the German South West African Campaign with General
Botha before returning to England.   The 13/06/1916 edition of the local
newspaper reported that he had fought in the South-West African Campaign
and was now in the London Rifles and had recently been wounded in the knee.
  The Sedbergh School Register states that he had been twice wounded in
1916.

MIC - Originally served in Hartigan's Horse then the 9th Bn London Rgt. 
Drafted to France on the 24th September 1916.  Awarded BWM & Victory which
were sent to Miss Dora Harvey.

The 1/9th Bn London Rifles was part of the 169th Brigade, (56) 47th
(London) Division.       On opening of the Battle of the Somme on the 1st
July 1916 they were on the right of the 169th Brigade's attack at
Gommecourt - on that day alone their casualties were 545.   To Bayencourt
on 02/07; to St. Amand 03/07.   Later began tours of duty in the
Foncquevillers sector, with billets at Hannescamps & Bienvillers.   
Travelling via St. Amand & Gaudiempré to Beaudricourt 18/08; to
Villers-l'Hôpital 21/08; to Agenvillers 23/08.   Entrained at St. Riquier
for Corbie 03/09, then to Happy Valley 04/09; to Billon Farm 06/09 and from
there took over Casement Trench astride the Maricourt to Longueval Road.   
 To positions near Leuze Wood 07/09, advancing through Leuze Wood for the
attack on Bouleaux Wood 09/09.  Their objectives taken to a new line called
Victoria Trench, later called Bully Trench.   To Citadel Camp 10/09 - their
casualties in those two days were 350.   To Billon Wood 12/09; to trenches
south of Leuze Wood 13/09; occupied Loop, Fusilier, Cheshire and Combles
Trenches 15/09 to 18/09.     From Falfemont Farm to Casement Trench 19/09;
to the front line at Combles 23/09 and attacked Combles Trench 24/09 - some
gains were made, but a German counter attack forced their withdrawal.   
2nd Lt. Mackenzie died during the attack on Combles Trench.
