Born during the March quarter 1890 in the Carlisle R.D. - ref: 10b/516, the
son of William & Ann Lavery (nee Simpson).

1891 Census - 6 Hope Street, Calisle Cumberland.   Son - aged: 1 - born:
Carlisle.   Head of household - James Lavery - Married - aged: 34 - occ:
Clogmaker - born: Carlisle.   Also - Annie Lavery - Wife - aged: 32 - born:
Carlisle.   Plus 3 elder siblings.

His mother - Annie Lavery, died in 1897, aged: 38.

1901 Census - 155 Denton Street, Carlisle, Cumberland.  Son - aged: 11 -
born: Carlisle.    Head of household - James Lavery - Widower - aged: 43 -
occ: Clogger - born: Upperby, Cumberland.   Plus 3 siblings.

Married Elizabeth Ann Green (Cissie) during the September quarter 1909 in
the Ormskirk R.D. - ref: 8b/1441.

1911 census - Morris Dancers Hotel, Scarisbrick, Ormskirk, Lancashire.  
Barman - Married - aged: 23 - occ: Hotel Barman - born: Carlisle,
Cumberland.   Thomas Hornby & his wife Emily Hornby managed the Hotel. 
This is now a "Beefeater" Pub.  His wife - Elizabeth Ann Lavery was
residing with her parents - James Henry & Ruth Green at 27 Larch Street,
Southport, where she was listed under her maiden name.   James &
Elizabeth's two children - James Jnr (b1910) and Percy (b.1911) were also
resdiing with her at this address.  His father was still residing at 155
Denton Street, Carlisle.

Soon after this they moved to 5 Brighton Grove off Cross Street, Ashton
upon Mersey, where their third child - Annie R. Lavery was born in late
1913.   James was now employed as a Barman at the Bull's Head P.H.

He became a Member of the "Pride of Brooklands Lodge" GLE - Order of
Buffaloes.

Enlisted into the Royal Artillery in February 1915 and promoted to Sergeant
in August 1918.   Their  fourth child - James H. Lavery was born in the
Autumn of 1915, but died early in 1916.

James was wounded during a German Gas attack and taken back down the line,
back to Etaples where he died.  He left a widow and three young children.
