Born during the December quarter 1920 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/260,
the son of Harry Morgan & Ann Victoria Longridge  (nee Mallory)

He attended Winchester School and Magdelene College, Cambridge and is
commemorated on their WW2 Memorial.

1939 National Registration - No Trace.  Men who were serving were not
included in this census, which indicates that he had already enlisted by
this time.    His parents resided at "Rathlin", Church Lane, Mobberley.  
Harry M. Longridge - Married - born on the 24th July 1880 - occ: Manager of
Engineering Insurance Company.   He was also a member of the A.R.P. (Air
Raid Precautions) Service.   Annie V. Longridge - Married - born on the
19th November 1887 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Diuities.   John B. Longridge -
Single - born on the 17th June 1912 - occ: Incapacitated.   Plus three
domestic servants and one redacted record at this address, which is
probably his younger sister - Mary K. Longridge born in 1915.

He joined the Fleet Air Arm on the 15th January 1941 and was assigned to
H.M.S. Daedalus, the F.A.A. base at Lee-on-Solent.  He boarded the S.S.
ALMEDA STAR at Liverpool bound for Trinidad where he was due to complete
his flying training.  The ship, which was a combined liner and refrigerated
cargo ship, was not part of a convoy and was not escorted.   She
encountered U-Boat U-96 north of Rockall off the Outer Hebrides where she
was torpedoed and sank within three minutes - there were no survivors from
the 360 passengers and crew - 7 of whom were civilians.

Commemorated locally on a stained glass window and a brass plaque in S.S.
Wilfred & Mary Church, Mobberley.
