The Manchester Regiment was built in 1922, its gross register tonnage was 5,989, it was 450 feet long, 58 feet wide and could make 14.5 knots. It was one of 13 ships operated by Manchester Liners Ltd, St. Anne's Square, Manchester 2. On the 04/12/39 whilst in convoy, she collided with S.S. Oropesa (sunk later in the war) and sank 150 miles SW of Cape Race. There were 63 survivors, but 9 crew were lost. |
