Presumably born in Canada in 1924, the daughter of George & Jane Ellen Laybourne (nee Brownless). On the 22nd June 1922 her parents - George & Jane emigrated to Canada aboard the HMS Empress of India. Their UK address was given as 1 Hartlepool Street, Thornley, Durham. George was a recorded as being a 32 year old Miner and Jane she as a 31 year old housewife. There are no UK records of the birth of their children, who were presumably born in Canada. 1939 National Registration - 9 Princess Avenue, Stretford. A total of eight people resided at this address in 1939 - Nos. 1-4 were the Laybourne family. George Laybourne - Married - Born: 25th June 1890 - occ: General Labourer at Soap Factory. Jane E. Laybourne - Married - Born: 1st July 1891 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties. There were two redacted records - presumably their two children - Catherine & George Jnr. CWD Report No. 74. Died as a result of falling debris at 28 Stanley Road, Old Trafford, from where her body was recovered at 15.45 hrs on the 9th January 1941 and taken to the City Road Mortuary, Old Trafford. Her body was identified by her cousin - J. Hutchinson and released for burial to the Council's Undertaker Contractor - R. Pepperdine, 31 Ayres Road, Old Trafford. Employed as an Office Girl. Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road, Old Trafford. This was the worst single incident in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater Manchester during WW2. In total, thirty three persons were killed. Buried 15/01/1941 - Burial No. 17,938. CWGC - of 9 Princes Avenue. Daughter of George and Jane Laybourne. Died at 28 Stanley Road. |
