According to a letter from Ministry of Defence Air Historical Branch (RAF)
dated 07/11/09, which states that "LAC Lightowler left Singapore as part of
the evacuation on the night of 13/02/1942. The convoy was bombed about
mid-day on the following day and the ship on which he was travelling
received two direct hits. It was understood at the time that the majority
of the personnel on board was lost. A nominal roll was held at the time
but only 32 men of those on board arrived in Ceylon and sadly LAC
Lightowler was not amongst them."
