Born during the December quarter 1875 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/178, the son of James Broome & Elizabeth Keen (nee Hopwood). Baptised at St. Mary's P.C., Bowdon on the 19th January 1876 1881 Census - Ringway, Hale. Son - aged: 5 - Scholar - born: Ashley. Head of household - James B. Keen - Married - aged: 39 - occ: Corn Miller - born: Manchester. Also - Elizabeth Keen - Wife - aged: 41 - born: Blackburn, Lancashire. Plus 6 siblings. His father - James Broom Keen died in late 1885, aged: 44. 1891 Census - Oversley Ford - Moss Lane, Pownall Fee, Altrincham. Lodger - aged: 15 - occ: Farm Labourer - born: Cheshire. His widowed mother was residing at Ringway, Hale - aged: 51. Plus three of his brothers, the eldest (Harry), carrying on in the Corn Milling industry.
