Born during the March quarter 1917 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1005. Lived in Sale for 24 years until he married 4 years ago when he moved to Northenden. Member of British Legion and United Services Clubs. Played football for St. Mary's F.C. and also played rugby. Apprentice at Churchill Machine Tool Co, Broadheath. Enlisted in May 1945 and was sent to Germany at the end of 1945 attached to his Battalion H.Q., first at Ratzburg, then Hamburg. |
