Whilst all his family's records show "HOLME" up to now, he has enlisted as "HOLMES", so all his military records show the latter surname for him. Only the CWGC seem to have got his name correct. WO363 - Attested at Sale on the 9th December 1915. Called to service with the 21st Royal Welsh Regiment on the 24th February 1916. Previously resided at 39 Urban Road, Sale, later at 14 Haddon Grove, Sale. Aged 22 years, 284 days - occ: Grocer's Assistant. 5 feet 8 inches in height. Chest measurements 31 to 34.5 inches. On the 12th March 1916 whilst in training at Kinmel Park, Wales he was charged with being absent without leave from 11.00 pm on the 12th March 1916 until 05.20hrs on the 13th. Given 1 days CB (Confined to Barracks). [Boundry Bank Farm was in the Parish of Undebarrow & Bradleyfield, Westmorland]. I have no idea why he should have been residing at Sale at the time of his enlistment. Formerly Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
