B.Sc. Engineering. Joined the Metro-Vicker's Comapny as a Probationary College Apprentice in October 1934 and returned as a College Apprentice in October 1938. Joined the RAFVR in which he held the rank of Pilot Officer and was later promoted to the rank of Squadron Leader. KinA whilst on air operations in September 1942. Flying with 106 Sqn he was the pilot of a Lancaster Mk I - No. W4179 ZN. They took off from RAF Conningsby at 20.30 hrs for a large scale bombing mission to Essen. They crashed at Soars in the north-eastern suberbs of Aachen where the seven man crew were buried on the 19th September. After the War their remains were transferred to the Rheinberg Cemetery. A total 396 a/c took part in this raid, of which 40 were lost. |
