ref: 8d/1845.

Hathershaw, Oldham.

Sent down from his base at Oldham Fire Station to assist the local firemen
at Trafford Park during the Manchester Blitz 22nd/23rd & 23rd/24th December
1940.

Raid Casualties lists for the 24th December 1940.

Died at Withington Hospital from injuries sustained on 24th December 1940
at Stretford.

Death registered in Manchester City.    Buried on 30/12/1940.

Commemorated on both the Oldham Fire Brigade War Memorial. and the
Manchester Fire Brigade Memorial.

CWGC - Fireman, Oldham A.F.S. Husband of Lily Mary Hughes, of 3 Bellfield
Avenue, Hathershaw, Oldham. Injured 2 December 1940, at Stretford; died at
Withington Hospital, Nell Lane.      CWGC state that he was injured on the
2nd December, but the 22nd seems much more likely.
