Probably an employee of Yapps Laundry where he was on Firewatching Duty. 
Fatally injured at Yapps (Laundry, Cleaners & Dyers) Ltd,  922 Chester Rd,
Stretford. and died the following day.  The death being registered in
Manchester City.  Buried in the Manchester City Communal Civilian Grave.

CWGC - Firewatcher. Husband of Lillian Harfield, of 35 Griffin Grove,
Levenshulme. Injured 11 March 1941, at Yapps Ltd., Stretford; died at
Withington Hospital, Nell Lane.

A total of seven people were killed in this incident that demolished Nos.
916 - 922 Chester Road.  The Chimney breasts of No. 916 can still be seen
on No. 914.

Yapps Laundry had branches at Ashton Old Road, Chorlton on Medlock and at
Whitefield and Stretford.
