Born on the 1st May 1874, the birth being registered during the September quarter 1873 in the Congleton R.D. - ref: 8a/289. Married - Diana Alice Aston during the December quarter 1893 in the Atcham R.D. - ref: 6a/1317. 1901 Census - Stamford Street, Ashton Upon Mersey. Head of household - Thomas Hill - Married - aged: 26 - occ: Tramway Inspector - born: Holmes Chapel. Also - Diana A Hill - Wife - aged: 28 - born: Worcester. Plus 5 children. 1911 Census - 145 Second Avenue, Trafford Park, Manchester. Head of household - Thomas Hill - Married - aged: 36 - occ: Tramway Inspector - born: Holmes Chapel. Diana Alice Hill - Wife - aged: 37 - born: Worcester. Plus 7 children, one of whom was Thomas Jnr. - aged: 5 - Scholar - born: Trafford Park, who was also killed in this incident. 1939 National Registration - 32 Stanley Road, Stretford. Thomas Hill - Married - Born: 1st May 1874 - occ: Firewood Merchant. Diana O. Hill - Married - Born: 30th August 1872 - occ: Incapacitated. Thomas Hill - Single - Born: 21st May 1905 - occ: Printers Clerk (Costing). Charles Dakin - Single - Born: 9th December 1901 - occ: Locomotive Fireman. Also recorded as a separate family are the Ricketts family who were also killed in this incident, together with Charles Dakin. Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road, Old Trafford. This was the worst single incident in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater Manchester during WW2. In total, thirty three persons were killed. One of 19 Unidentified Bodies buried in the Communal Grave at Stretford Cemetery. His wife - Diana Alice and their son, also - Thomas, were both killed in this incident, as was their married daughter - Nellie Smith and her husband William Harcourt Smith.
