Born during the June quarter 1883 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/189, the
eldest son of Joseph & Mary Ellen Holt (nee Derbyshire).    Baptised at St.
Martin's P.C. on the 3rd June 1883.

Attended St. Mary's School, Ashton on Mersey.     Since his marriage he had
attended St. John's Church, Altrincham.

Enlisted in November 1914 and was drafted to the front in October 1915.

The 22nd (Service) Bn (7th City) were part of the 91st Brigade, 7th
Division and on the 1st July 1916 made an attack on Mametz.    'B' & 'D'
Companies led the assault at 07.30 hrs reaching "Bucket Trench" and "Danzig
Alley".   With high losses, 'C' & 'D' Companies, in support, moved on to
"Fritz Trench" where they were held up.   Bombers (Trench Mortar's) cleared
"Bright Alley".  Total casualties - 390.     Killed leading his men into
action.

Death reported in the 14/07/19116 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Pension Record - Dependent - Alice Holt, 6 Borough Road, Altrincham.  
Awarded a Grant of 50/- on the 13th December 1916.  Awarded a weekly
pension of 11/- w.e.f. the 22nd July 1917, which was increased to 19/-
w.e.f. the 27th August 1918.

Not listed on any of Trafford Cenotaphs or Church Memorials.
