Born during the June quarter 1894 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/176, the son of John W. & Elizabeth Heywood. 1901 Census - Clay Lane, Timperley. Son - aged: 7 - born: Timperley. Head of household - John Heywood - Married - aged: 45 - Maket Garden Labourer - born: Timperley. Also - Elizabeth Heywood - Wife - aged: 42 - born: Baguley. Plus 2 elder siblings. His mother - Elizabeth Heywood died in 1906, aged: 47. 1911 Census - Clay Lane, Timperley. Son - aged: 17 - occ: Confectioner's Assistant - born: Timperley. Head of household - John Heywood - Widower - aged: 55 - Farmer's Labourer - born: Timperley. Plus 2 elder siblings and 1 cousin. His father John W. Heywood died in 1913, aged: 58. He then lived with his sister & brother-in-law - Mr. & Mrs. Read, 15 Cedar Road, Hale. When he lived at Timperley, he was a member of the Timperley P.C. choir. Employed in the Pulley Dept of Messrs. George Richards, Broadheath. Enlisted on the 05/09/1914. His sister received a letter from the lieutenant of his platoon stating that his death was instantaneous as a shrapnel bullet had pierced his lung and probably his heart as well. Death reported in the 22/10/1915 editions of the Altrincham Guardian and the Runcorn Guardian Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1916. Enlisted on the 05/09/1914. His sister received a letter from the lieutenant of his platoon stating that his death was instantaneous as a shrapnel bullet had pierced his lung and probably his heart as well.
