Born during the September quarter 1882 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/186, the youngest son of John & Sarah Hinde (nee Cartwright). 1881 Census - Before Richard was born, his parents and family were residing at 136 Northenden Road. John Hinde (father) - aged: 36 - occ: Joiner - born: Grindley Brook, Shropshire. Sarah Hinde (mother) - aged: 34 - born: Wem, Shropshire. Brothers:- Joseph C. Hinde - aged: 12; George H. Hinde - aged: 10; Henry Hinde - aged: 7; John Hinde - aged: 2 and sisters:- Sarah E. Hinde - aged: 8; Mary Jane Hinde - aged: 5; Alice Hinde - aged: 3. All siblings were born at Sale. Another sister - Esther Hinde was born in late 1881. His father - John Hinde died in 1884 - aged: 39. His mother - Sarah Hinde, now had 8 children to bring up on her own. 1891 Census - 139 Northenden Road, Sale. Son - aged: 8 - Scholar - born: Sale. Head of household - Sarah Hinde, Widow - aged: 44 - occ: General Hardware Dealer - born: Wem, Shropshire. Plus 2 elder siblings and 3 boarders. 1901 Census - 53 Seymour Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire. Brother - aged: 18 - occ: Apprentice Book Binder - born: Sale. Head of household - John Hinde (his elder brother) - aged: 22 - occ: Grocer's Assistant - born: Sale and Esther Hinde (his elder sister) , aged: 19 - occ: Vest Maker Tailor - born: Sale. Also residing there was his nephew - George H. Hinde - aged: 9 - born: Sale. This George H. Hinde was also killed during WW1. Married Mabel Annie Nash during the June quarter 1909 in the Derby R.D. - ref: 7b/1253. 1911 Census - 3 Edwards Street, Sale. Head of household - Married - aged: 28 - occ: Shop Assistant - born: Sale. Also - Mabel Annie Hinde - Wife - aged: 27 - born: Derby, Derbyshire. Employed by his nephew - G.H. Hinde, (Tailor) Northenden Rd, Sale who was also killed during WW1. This is George H. Hinde (born: 1871) son of John & Sarah Hinde, the elder brother of Richard Hinde who was also killed during WW1. His mother - Sarah Hinde died in 1915, aged: 68. Death reported in the 16/06/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. The report states that he was one of the first men to enlist and that he enlisted at Sale? Left a widow and one young child - Edith May Hinde, born on the 9th April 1911. Died of wounds received in May. Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery K.982. His father John died 21/03/1884 aged 39 years and his mother Sarah died 13/04/1915 aged 68 years. Pension Record - The Dependent was his daughter's Guardian - Mrs. E. Nash, 12 Horton Street, Derby, who was awarded a weekly pension of 5/- (Motherless Rate) w.e.f. 4th December 1916. It would appear that after Richard's death, his widow - Mabel Annie Hinde moved back to be with her own family at Derby, taking their daughter with her. The pension record states that Mabel was born on the 25th November 1883 and died on the 13th July 1916, aged: 32, which correlates with the BMD record for her. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917, which states that his initials were R.H. ??? |
