Born during the March quarter 1885 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/167, the son of Henry & Maria Hughes (nee Barnes). 1891 Census - Shea Lane, Hale. Son - aged: 6 - born: Mobberley. Head of household - Henry Hughes - Married - aged: 42 - occ: Farm Servant - born: Co. Mayo, Ireland. Also Maria Hughes - Wife - aged: 38 - born: Mobberley. Plus 3 siblings and 2 Irish Farm Servants as boarders. 1901 Census - 2 Lloyd Square, Altrincham. Son - aged: 16 - occ: Iron Moulder - born: Mobberley. Head of household - Henry Hughes - Married - aged: 59 - occ: Labourer (Navvy) - born: Co. Mayo, Ireland. Also Maud Hughes - Wife - aged: 47 - born: Bollington, Cheshire. Plus 5 siblings. 1911 Census - 2 Lloyd Square, Altrincham. Son - aged: 26 - occ: Assistant Fishmonger - born: Mobberley.
