Born on the 25th April 1897 the birth being registered during the June
quarter 1897 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/189,  the only son of Alfred
& Dora Jeanne Haworth (nee Muir).  His mother died the day following his
birth.  His father remarried and went on to have two other sons - half
brothers to Philip.

1901 Census - Stone House, St. Helen's Road, Leigh, Lancashire.    Nephew -
aged: 3 - born: Altrincham.    Head of household - James Hays - Married -
aged: 45 - occ: Medical Practitioner - born: Leigh, Lancashire.    Also -
Jessie Hayes - Wife - aged: 40 - born: Manchester.   Plus 3 domestic
servants.    His father and his new step-mother were then residing at "The
Knoll", Dunham Massey.   Head of household - Alfred Haworth - Married -
aged: 32 - occ: Cotton Yan Agent - born: Eccles, Lancashirfe.    Also -
Elizabeth Anne Haworth - Wife - aged:31 - born: Oldham, Lancashire.   Plus
2 domestic servants.

1911 Census - Roman's Road, Culverlen, Winchester, Hampshire.   Boarder -
aged: 13 - Student - born: Altrincham, studying at Winchester College.   
His father, step-mother and half-siblings were then residing in a 16 room
house called "Woodend", Bradgate Road, Dunham Massey.  Philip now had 2
half brothers (Hugh Alexander b.1902 & Leslie b.1903), plus 2 half sisters
(Dorothea b.1905 & Hilary b.1908).  There were five domestic servants
employed, but his step-mother was listed as a School Proprietor.

Also a nephew of Sir Arthur A. Haworth of Bowdon.

Educated at Winchester College, Wooton Court, Nr. Canterbury, Kent.

"Eldest son of Alfred Haworth JP and his father's first wife, Dora,
daughter of Alexander Muir of Altrincham. His father married secondly
Elizabeth Anne, daughter of Alexander MacGowan MP of Oldham and had two
further sons, both Wykehamists: Hugh Alexander Haworth (G1915-1920) and
Leslie Haworth (G 1916-1921). He entered Culverlea (Sergeant's) from
Wootton Court School, Canterbury and became Head of his House and won gold
and silver medals for gymnastics.

He was entered for New College, Oxford but on leaving school obtained a
commission in the R.F.A., and after ten weeks' training, although some 6
months under the age limit for service overseas, was sent in November 1915
to France where he served until his death with the 89th and 86th Artillery
Brigades. He was severely wounded on April 28th 1917, at Gavrelle, during
the successful attack on Vimy Ridge, and died in hospital in Etaples on May
3rd. He had been promoted to acting Captain the day before."

The above library has a portrait of P T Haworth on the wall (possibly oil
or watercolour)

Commissioned in the RFA in August 1915 and drafted to the front in November
1915.   He served continuously on the Somme offensive, serving with the
89th and 86th Artilery Brigades.

Death reported in the 08/05/1917 edition of the Altrincham
Guardian.(another report on the 11th).  The report  quotes him as being a
2nd Lieutenant.

Died on the 3rd May  of wounds received near Gavrelle on the 28th April
1917.

CWGC - Son of Alfred & Dora Jeanne Haworth (nee Muir) of Woodend,
Altrincham, Cheshire.

He had two brothers serving - one was at the front, the other was serving
at Chatham, Kent.

Commemorated in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918, also in
De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, New College Oxford War Memorial.

Probate granted in London on the 14th July to Alfred Haworth, Yarn Agent.  
His Estate was valued at £8,323. 14s. 11d.
