Eldest of 3 brothers (one a Lt in the Army, the other also in the RAF), he joined the RAF 4 months after war broke out. Flying with 88 Sqn they took off at 0940hrs from R.A.F. Attlebridge, Norfolk, in a Blenhein Mk.IV, No. Z7488 RH-F, for an anti-shipping operation. Believed to have been shot down by Lt. Koenig, of 5/ZG76. Total losses; 3 crew (one Canadian, one N.Z. and F/S Hammersley), all are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.  | |||
