Attended Springfield Rd School and the Stretford Technical College - the latter for 2 years before joining the RAF as an apprentice in 1938. Became an ACM in October 1940. Died at "Marble Arch" in the Middle East. The Marble Arch, formerly known in Libya as El Gaus, was a monument in Libya built during the days of Italian colonization. It was 31 metres high and situated on the Libyan Coastal Highway near Ra's Lanuf, marking the border between Tripolitania and Cyrenaica. His elder brother Gavin, served in the Royal Corps of Signals and his younger brother ????? joined the Army in Jan/Feb 1943. |
