Flying with 207 Sqn, they took of at 2236hrs on the 22nd from R.A.F. Spilsby, Lincolnshire, in a Lancaster Mk.III, No. ND871 EM-G on a bombing operation to Braunschweig. They were shot down by a night-fighter at 1500hrs at Nortrup, 9 km SW of Quackenbrück. The only NZ became a POW, but the other 6 died in the crash and are all buried in the Reichswald Forest Cem. The loss card shows that the pilot was on his second tour of operations and it is thought likely that most of his crew were also. |
