Born during the September quarter 1895 in the Halifax R.D. - ref: 9a/430,
the elder son of - Leonard & Louisa Goodfellow (nee Sheard).

1901 Census - 85 Kings Cross Lane, Halifax, Yorkshire.   Son - aged: 5 -
born: Halifax.   Head of household - Leonard Goodfellow - Married - aged:
30 - occ: Nurseryman, Seedsman & Florist - born: Halifax, Yorkshire.   Also
Louisa Goodfellow - Wife - aged: 30 - born: Mold, Flintshire.  Plus 1
younger brother and his Scottish paternal grandmother.

1911 Census - 46 Kings Cross Road, Halifax.   Son - aged: 15 - occ: Office
Boy - born: Halifax.   Head of household - Leonard Goodfellow - Married -
aged: 40 - occ: Florist & Seedsman - born: Halifax, Yorkshire.   Also
Louisa Goodfellow - Wife - aged: 40 - born: Rhyd Y Gwern, near Mold,
Flintshire.  Plus 1 younger brother, 1 younger sister and his Scottish
paternal grandmother.

When Thomas Walkden of Walkden Gardens, Sale fame retired in 1913, his
father leased Thomas Walkden's Nursery (corner of Marsland Road and
Derbyshire Road, Sale), from 1913 to 1934.

Enlisted in the Manchester Rgt - No. 4085 in September 1914.  Later given a
new number - 12085, he fought all through the Somme offensive unscathed,
but.was Invalided home in October 1916 with an injury to his ear drum
through shell shock.   On his return to service, he became a Musketry
Instructor at Ripon and given another number - 29753, but later transferred
to the East Lancashire Rgt going back to the front line in January 1918.
