Born during the June quarter 1915 in the Prescot R.D. - ref: 8b/1434, the son of John & Bertha Grogan (nee Alcock). John was a Coal Miner below ground. Thomas was a member of the Altrincham Police Force, appointed on the 9th January 1939. 1939 National Registration - 13 Princes Road, Altrincham. William Allen - Married - born on the 28th December 1902 - occ: Machine Tool Turner. Mary Allen - Married - born on the 25th October 1904 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties. Thomas V. Grogan - Single - born on the 7th April 1915 - occ: Police Constable with the Cheshire Constabulary. (Army Reserve Class 'B' 1st Bn Grenadier Guards N. 12614515). Married Vera W. Bailey during the March quarter 1940 in the Surrey South East R.D. - ref: 2a/1843. Vera was born on the 6th June 1920, the daughter of Herbert G. & Mary A.E. Bailey, residing at 72 Cromwell Road, Caterham & Warlingham, Surrey. He was taken prisoner in Tunisia, North Africa during the Battle of the Horseshoe - Mareth Line in 1943 and died in an air raid in Italy whilst being transported into captivity in Germany. Commemorated on the Cheshire Constabulary War Memorial and in their War Memorial Book. His widow Vera W. Grogan married Arthur J. Knight in 1952 in the Surrey South East R.D. |
