Born on the 14th April 1905, the birth being registered during the December quarter 1904 in the Manchester R.D. - ref: 8d/242, the son of Herbert Thomas & Mary Ellen Griffiths (nee Brooks). 1911 Census - Baguley Hospital, Near Altrincham. Patient - aged: 6 - Scholar - born: Hightown, Manchester. His parents and siblings were at that time residing at 76 Hawthorn Road, Levenshulme, Manchester. His father was a 41 year old Lithographic Printer and there were two siblings listed. 1939 National Registration - 201 Kings Road , Stretford. Herbert T. Griffiths - Married - born: 17th January 1870 - occ: Lithographic Printer (Retired). Mary E. Griffiths - Married - born: 1st November 1872 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties. Herbert V. Griffiths - Single - born: 18th September 1893 - occ: Coal Labourer (Heavy Worker). Charles Griffiths - Single - born: 14th April 1905 - occ: Sales Representative Grocery ? Canadian Government Department Trade & Commercial. His mother - Mary Ellen Griffiths died during the September quarter 1940 - aged 67. CWD Report No.88. Died as a result of blast at 201 Kings Road, Stretford from where his body was recovered at 11.20 hrs on the 23rd December 1949. His body was identified by his sister - L.A. Grove and released for burial to the Council's contracted undertaker - R. Pepperdine, 31 Ayres Road, Old Trafford. Buried in the Communal Civilian Grave. Buried 30/12/1940 - Burial No. 17,882. His father - Herbert Thomas Griffiths was also killed in this incident. CWGC - Died at 201 King's Road. |
