Born on the 12th September 1899, the birth being registered during the
September quarter 1899 in the Stockport R.D. - ref: 8a/53, the son of
Robert & Harriet Gatley (nee Wood).

Staffordshire.     Plus 3 siblings including Frank who was also killed on
active service and his paternal grandfather.

Enlisted into the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve on the 9th June 1917 stating
that his DoB was 1898 !!!   He was placed into the 3rd Reserve
Battalion.and trained at Blandford.     Drafted to the front intothe Anson
Battalion of the Royal Naval Division on the 26th November 1917.  He
registered his father - Robert Gatley as his next of kin, residing at Yew
Tree House, Ringway.

His medical records state that he was admitted into the 149th Field
Ambulance on the 17th March 1918.

At the time of his death, his eldest brother was convalescing and his 2nd
eldest brother - Frank Gatley was KiA in July 1917.
