Born at Salford in 1897 - no trace BMDs. Baptised Charles Hazel Fox at Eccles, Weaste on the 30th December 1896, the son of Henry Alfred & Mary Ellen Fox (nee Eastwood). His mother - Mary Ellen Fox died in late 1900, aged: 34. His father was now left with two young children to look after as well as trying to earn a living, so Charles was adopted by his aunt Bessie Barlow and her husband Albert Barlow. In 1901 his widowed father - Henry Fox was residing with Henry's sister and brother in law - Robert & Annie Morris at 16 Watson Street, Eccles. Also residing there was Charles' full blood sister Hannah Fox, aged: 3. In 1911, his father and sister were still residing with Robert & Annie Morris, but they had now moved to 33 Balfour Road, Flixton. His father, his adopted mother and Annie Morris were brother and sisters - all born in Sherborne, Dorset. 1901 Census - 30 Cawdor Street, Patricroft, Eccles. Listed as Charles Hassell Fox - Boarder - aged: 4 - born: Salford. Head of household - Albert Barlow - Married - aged: 35 - occ: Farmer - born: Davyhulme. Also - Bessie Barlow - Wife - aged: 48 - born: Sherborne, Dorsetshire. Plus 2 elder Barlow siblings Harold & Miriam Barlow. 1911 Census - 103 Moorside Road, Flixton. Listed as Charles Fox - Adopted Son - aged: 14 - occ: Grocer's Boy - born: Salford. Head of household - Albert Barlow - Married - aged: 49 - occ: Farmer - born: Davyhulme. Also - Bessie Barlow - Wife - aged: 36 - born: Sherborne, Dorsetshire. Plus 2 elder Barlow siblings - Harold & Miriam Barlow. His adopted mother - Bessie Barlow died in 1911, aged: 48. SDGW lists date of death as 01/08/17. Roll of Honour in the 18/09/1917 edition of the Manchester Evening News.
