Extra Information:
Born during the June quarter 1920 in the Wandsworth R.D, the son of Stanley
George & Harriet Lily Louisa Ford (nee Wheeler).

Commemorated in the Metro-Vicker's WW2 Memorial Book, which states that he
joined the Company in December 1936 and was employed on the staff of the
Lamp Department in London. He joined the RAFVR in January 1940. Died
in England in August 1940.

In April 1940, conversion to Spitfires took place in time for the squadron
to help cover the evacuation from Dunkirk and later to take part in the
Battle of Britain. In May 1940 - 64 Sqn was based at RAF Kenley.

William may not have been "one of the few", but the "few" would not have
been able to get airborne without their ground crews, who at times were
just as much in the front line when the airfields were being systematically
and repeatedly bombed that summer.

William was killed in one such bombing raid on the Kenley Airfield on the
19th August. The following day, the Squadron had to move to RAF
Leconfield.
