in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/176, the son of Charles & Mary Jane Fitton
(nee Fielding).

Member of the Timperley Company of the Church Lads Brigade and of the
Timperley P.C. Institute.

He enlisted in the Royal Navy 1902 and left eight years later (1910) due to
having defective sight.     For the next four years he was employed by the
Leyland Shipping Line on their West Indies Service.     He then emigrated
to Canada and commenced farming.

His Canadian attestation form, signed on the 9th January 1915, at Winnipeg,
Manitoba, states that he was aged 28 years 10 months, 5 feet 8 inches in
height, had a 38/2 inch chest (fully expanded).   His complexion was:
fresh, his eyes: blue and his hair: fair.    The papers also state that he
was a Farmer by trade and that he had previously served in the Navy.    He
had a scar on the left side of his neck.

Religion - C of E.   He was unmarried and his mother - Mary Jane Fitton,
School House, Timperley, Cheshire, was listed as his next of kin.

Altrincham Guardian states that he enlisted in the Canadian Scottish in
August 1914 (not according to his attestaion form !!!) and was drafted to
the front in late 1915

He was in hospital during September and October 1916, returning to his
Regiment in November.

The 14/11/1916 edition of the local newspaper reported that he had been
awarded the Military Medal for carrying dispatches under heavy fire.

He was unmarried.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Christchurch Churchyard. 
M.I. "So he passed over and all the trumpets sounded for him on the other
side".   It also states that he served with the 1st Canadian Scottish, as
does the local newspaper.    There is no M.I. on his Hanguard Wood
Headstone.

His father, Charles who for many years, was the headmaster of Timperley
School died 24/11/1919 aged 67 years and his mother, Mary Jane died
07/10/1926 aged 72 years.
