Born during the September quarter 1891 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/173, the son of Thomas & Elizabeth Entwistle (nee Done). 1901 Census - 25 Woodfield Road, Altrincham. Son - aged: 9 - born: Altrincham. Head of household - Thomas Entwistle - Married - aged: 53 - occ: Iron foundry Steel Dresser - born: Warrington. Also Elizabeth Entwistle - Wife - aged: 48 - born: Warrington. Plus 7 siblings. 1911 Census - 12 Bemrose Avenue, Altrincham. Son - aged: 19 - occ: Turner at Linotype Ltd - born: Altrincham. Head of household - Thomas Entwistle - Married - aged: 63 - occ: Retired Iron Dresser - born: Warrington. Also Elizabeth Entwistle - Wife - aged: 59 - born: Appleton Thorne, Cheshire. Plus 3 brothers. A member of the old 3rd Cheshire Military Band. Employed for 10 years as an Iron Turner at the Linotype Works, Broadheath. MIC - states that he was posted to France on the 15th February 1915. Served in 'B' Company. They took over trenches at Oosthoek on the 1st June - wounded at Ypres on 9th June 1915. He had been in the Army for 8 years when he was drafted to France in February 1915. On the 09/06/1915, near Ypres, he received a severe shrapnel wound in his back. He died in Northampton Hospital, of wounds received in France. Buried 09/08/1915 - Burial No. 3,290. His death being reported in the 10/08/1915 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Hale Cem. M.I. - "He gave his life for his Country". His father, Thomas died 04/06/1913 aged 65 years. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1916. |
