My thanks to the NZ Archives for his personnel information - www.archives.govt.nz Died during the March quarter 1929 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1174 - aged: 47. The CWGC records state - "There is also buried in this cemetery....." and the 6th Feb 1929 is correct. Their records state that there are 35 x 1st W.W. war graves in this cemetery, but including Private Evans there is actually 36. So, his is not classed as a war grave (it is certainly well outside of their date parameters). It is standard NZ practice to bury ex-servicemen in the military section of a cemetery and give them a military style headstone, even though they died well outside of any conflict dates. Buried 12/02/1929 - Burial No. 12,251. |
