Born John Willie Derbyshire during the December quarter 1895 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/168, the son of William & Annie Derbyshire (nee Mather). 1901 Census - 75 Egerton Street, Sale. Son (Listed as John Derbyshire) - aged: 5 - born: Sale. Head of household - William Derbyshire - Married - aged: 41 - occ: Slater - born: Sale. Also Annie Derbyshire - Wife - aged: 41 - born: Warrington. Plus 3 elder siblings, including Mary Ann Derbyshire (b.1885) who married Alfred Owen, who served in the Manchester Regiment during WW1 and survived. Attended Springfield Road School. 1911 Census - 75 Egerton Street, Sale. Son (Listed as John Willie Derbyshire) - aged: 15 - occ: Errand Boy - born: Sale. Head of household - William Derbyshire - Married - aged: 51 - occ: Slater - born: Sale. Also Annie Derbyshire - Wife - aged: 51 - born: Warrington. Plus 1 younger sibling. Employed by Westinghouse Ltd. He joined the Cheshire Rgt before the war and was mobilised on 04/08/1914 - his original number was 2094. MIC - Drafted to France on the 1st July 1915 - BWM - 15 Star - Victory. His WO363 did not survive. At the time of his death, he had been at the front for 2½ years = April 1915. He was wounded and hospitalised in June 1917, discharged from hospital at the end of August 1917 and sent to another Battalion. Death reported in the 16/11/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918. Listed as J. Derbyshire on St. Paul's Memorial.
