Born during the September quarter 1897 in the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/442, the son of Walter Best & Fannie Ditchfield. Baptised at St. Anne's P.C. on the 4th August 1897 to Walter Best & Fanny Ditchfield of 86 ightbourne Road, Newton Heath, Manchester. Father's occ: Cashire. In 1891 his parents were residing at 543 Oldham Road, Newton Heath, Manchester. Walter was employed as a Cashire, aged: 22, born: Rochdale. Fannie was also aged: 22 - born: Manchester. His father died during the December quarter 1897 in the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/278 - aged: 29. His mother married Edward Alty Halstead during the December quarter 1899 in the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/606. 1901 Census - No Trace. 1911 Census - 17 Derwent Road, Stretford. Son - aged: 13 - Scholar - born: Manchester. Head of household - Fanny Halstead (His mother) Married - aged: 42 - born: Manchester. Plus 2 siblings and 2 boarders. WO363 - No Trace.
