Born at 16 Hubert Street, Manchester on the 3rd July 1887, the birth being
registered during the September quarter 1887 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref:
8c/851, the 2nd son of Thomas & Agnes Dodd (nee Warburton).

1891 Census - 76 New Lane, Eccles.   Son - aged: 3 - born: Lancashire.  
Head of household - Thoas Dodd - Married - aged: 35 - occ: Commercial
Traveller - born: Cheshire.    Also - Agnes Dodd - Wife - aged: 30 - born:
Lymm, Cheshire.   Plus 2 brothers and his materal grandmother.

Attended the Higher School Patricroft and the Royal Technical School,
Salford.   Resided at "The Beeches" New Lane, Eccles.

His father, Thomas died 28/03/1905 aged 49 years.

Plus 2 brothers 1 sister.

WO374/20067 - He applied for a Commission on the 5th November 1915.  He was
employed as a Surveyor & Valuer.

Embarked UK on the 10th June 1917.  Disembarked Alexandria, Egypt on the
20th June.  Attached to the 1/7th Bn Cheshire Rgt on the 23rd June and
joined the Bn on the 28th.  Sent to the School of Instruction - 3rd Course
Trench Warfare - passed 90% and Bombing Course - passed 98%.   4th Lewis
Gun Course and qualified as an instructor.    In the 53rd Division when he
was wounded on the 7th November 1917.   Admitted to the 65th C.C.S.
(Casualty Clearing Station) on the10th, suffering from a GSW (gun shot
wound) to right hand and right thigh.  He died at the 43rd Stationary
Hospital, Syria of Secondary Hemorrage following amplutaion of his leg.  
There is a long list of personal items belonging to him.

He was originally buried in Grave No. 109, 43rd Stationary Hospital Burial
Ground, Masaid, Syria.    Burials from other cemeteries and desert
battlefields.. were brought into Kantara post WW1.
  
Commemorated in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour - Wounded during an attack on
Jerusalem on the 7th November 1918 and died at No. 43 Stationary Hospital,
El Arish, Syria.   Buried in the Masaid Military Cemetery, El Arish,
Cemetery.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in St. Catherine's, Barton on
Irwell. Ref: 6a22.  This states that he was buried at El Arish, Syria.
