Trafford

Born at Ashton upon Mersey on the 15th December 1919, the birth being
registered during the March quarter 1920 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/389,
the only child of George & Daisy Beatrice Cribbin (nee Dunn).

Better known as Norman, he was a member of St. Joseph's Scout Troop and a
member of the Knights of St. Columba at St. Vincent's Altrincham.

1939 National Registration - 20 Davenham Road, Sale.   George Cribbin -
Married - born on the 15th November 1888 - occ: Washerman at Flour Mills.  
Daisy B. Cribbin - Married - born on the 7th October 1885 - occ: Unpaid
Domestic Duties & a member of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade, Sale.  
There is one redacted record at this address which is probably George
Norman Cribbin's record.

In July 1935, aged 15 he started work as a Probationary Trade Apprentice at
the Metro-Vickers Engineering Factory at Trafford Park.  Accepted as an
Electrical Fitter Trade Apprentice proper in July 1936 - the Apprenticeship
in the West Works Switchgear Department  lasted until December 1940. 
Employed as an Electrical Fitter at Metro-Vics, but is not mentioned on
their Roll of Honour.   

Between Christmas 1940 and the New Year 1941, just after his 21st birthday,
he married - Elizabeth Girvan Leary at Sale, the marriage being registered
during the December quarter 1941 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/779.

Joined the RAFVR in April 1942 and promoted to the rank of Sergeant in
1944.

Flying with 78 Sqn, they took off at 22.52 hrs on the 7th from R.A.F.
Breighton, Yorkshire, in a Halifax Mk.III, No. MZ568 EY-E to bomb rail
communications at Juvisy.  The aircraft probably exploded in mid-air after
being hit by flak, as debris was scattered between Corbeil and Essones.

One of the 2 Canadians on board, was buried at Essone with the remaining 6
crew being buried at Courances, a village some 10 km away from Essone. 

Left a widow and 2 children, John and Norman - the baby born 5 months after
his death.

Death reported in  the 3rd November 1944 edition of the Sale & Stretford
Guardian.    Listed as Norman G. Cribbin in the local newspaper.

M.I. "Eternal Rest Give Unto Him. O Lord; and Let Perpetual Light Shine
Upon Him".

His uncle - John Cribbin from Sale was killed during WW1.
