Born on the 24th March 1893, the daughter of John & Dora Carroll. 1901 Census - 49 Cheltenham Street, Manchester. Daughter - aged: 8 - born: Manchester. Head of household - John Carroll - Married - aged: 40 - occ: Labourer in Foundry - born: Salford. Also - Dora Carroll - wife - aged: 36 - born: Salford. Plus 5 siblings. 1911 Census - 58 St. Oswald's Grove, Rochdale Road, Manchester. Daughter - aged: 18 - occ: Blind Maker - born: Manchester. Head of household - John Carroll - Married - aged: 49 - occ: Labourer - born: Salford. Also - Dora Carroll - wife - aged: 46 - born: Salford. Plus 9 siblings. 1939 National Registration - 32 Westwood road, Stretford. Frederick N. Hodcroft - Married - born on the 9th September 1898 - occ: Gas Inspector (Refrigerator). Helena Hodcroft (crossed out and DOLAN inserted) - Married - born on the 5th October 1900 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties. Mary Ann Carroll - Single - born on the 24th March 1893 - occ; Tailoress. Helena was also injured at 32 Westwood Road. Died as a result of falling debris at 32 Westwood Road, Stretford, and her body was recovered at 02.00 hrs on the 7th November 1940 and taken to the Church Street Mortuary, Stretford where it was identified by a friend - J.E. O'Donoughue. Recorded as being single, 5 feet 2 inches in height, of stout build, brown hair, had blue eyes and a wart on her right cheek. The body was released to Messrs. Lyons & Gordon (Undertakers) Ltd, 111 Great Ancoats Street, Manchester 4. Buried on 12/10/1940. Listed as May Carroll - single, on the CWD Report No.002. The CWGC list her as "May Carroll (otherwise CARLANE or CARROLLAN, Mary Annie)". May was the sister of the Helena Hodcroft (nee Carrollan) the wife of Frederick Noah Hodcroft. Frederick was also killed at this address. Death registered in Stretford Borough. |
