7a/338, the son of John William & Jane Corby (nee Palmer).

1901 Census - Rostherne Village, Rostherne.   Son - aged: 15 - occ:

1911 Census - Gardener's Bothy, Greyfriars Broughton, Preston.   Head -
Unmarried - aged: 25 - occ: Gardener Domestic - born: Empingham,
Rutlandshire.  Two other gardeners were lodging in this bothy.  His parents
and siblings were stiil residing at Rostherne at this time.    (A bothy is
a basic shelter, usually left unlocked and available for anyone to use free
of charge. It was also a term for basic accommodation, usually for
gardeners or other workers on an estate).

Enlisted at Wrexham.  The 11th (Service) Battalion was formed at Cardiff in
September 1914 - as K3 battalion - South Downs in 67th Brigade part of 22nd
Division in December 1914.  Hastings in April 1915.   Seaford, Sussex in
May 1915.  Aldershot, Hampshire on the 6th September 1915. Landed at Le
Havre, France on the 30 October 1915.   Sailed from Marseilles for Salonika
arriving on the 8th November 1915.

Killed during the preparations for the Battle of Tumbitza Farm 17th
November - 7th December 1917.

His MIC states that he was drafted to France on the 5th September 1915.  He
qualified for three war medals - the 1915 Star, the BWM & the VM.
