Trafford

Born during the June quarter 1916 in the Rochdale R.D. - ref: 8e 92, the
only surviving son of Harry & Ruth Barker Clegg (nee Mutch).   His parents
resided at 365 Washway Road, Sale.   Harry & Ruth had another son in late
1912 who died soon after birth.

1921 Census - 1 Birch Avenue, Sale.  Son -aged: 5 - born: Rochdale.   Head
of household = Harry Clegg - Married - aged: 33 - occ: Machinist tool
Fitter, employed by Metro-Vickers Ltd - born: Oldham.   Also - Ruth	Clegg -
Wife - aged: 30 - occ: Home Duties - born: Rochdale, Lancashire.-

Attended St. Mary's Primary School, Ashton upon Mersey - there is a 1928
photograph on him with his class members.

Attended Sale High School and Manchester Grammar School.   Member of Sale
RUFC and Ashton on Mersey CC.    Employed by the Royal Liverpool Friendly
Society at Openshaw.

Married Edith Appleton during the March quarter 1940 in the Salford R.D. -
ref: 8d/1363.

1939 National Registration - No Trace of the family.

Attested in 1939; he had been overseas for two years and was a Battery
Surveyor with the RA.  His attestation record states that he died in an
accident.

According to the 02/06/1944 edition of the local newspaper, his wife and 3
year old son were living at Salford. 

Sale F.C. Centenary book states that he died in a battle accident.

Cheshire.
