Sometime between 1911 and 1918, the family moved to 109 Glebelands Road,
Ashton upon Mersey.

The 23rd Battalion, Manchester Regiment served with the 104th Brigade, 35th
Division.   They arrived on the Somme on the 2nd July 1916.  They arrived
at Happy Valley on the 15th August and moved to Taus Boise on the 18th. 
They moved into the front line on the 19th and on the 20th August they dug
a new trench (Bantam Trench) in advance of line during the night.   Daniel
was killed in that advance.

Commemorated on the family grave in St. Martin's Ref: 3.172.

His father Daniel died 02/08/1929 aged 67 and his mother Alice died
28/12/1944 aged 90.
