Attended Altrincham Grammar School. Joined the Merchant Navy in 1927 with the Elder Dempster Co. He was torpedoed off the Canary Islands in 1940. He fell down the large cargo hold whilst the ship was in dock in Nova Scotia, Canada. Listed as T. Barnes on the Alrincham Grammar School Memorial. Left a widow and 2 children residing at 29 Norman Road, Sale. Not commemorated by the CWGC. |
