Born at Mobberley in 1890, the son of John & Elizabeth Bailey (nee
Stockton).

Forester on Estate - born: Mobberley.   Also - Elizabeth Bailey - Wife -
aged: 29 - born: Ashley.   Plus 3 siblings.

1901 Census - New Mills, Mobberley.   Son - aged: 10 - born: Mobberley.    
Head of household - John Bailey - Married - aged: 36 - occ: Forester on
Estate - born: Mobberley.   Also - Elizabeth Bailey - Wife - aged: 40 -
born: Mobberley.   Plus 5 siblings.

The family resided at 24 Town Lane, Mobberley.

1911 Census - The Old Hall, Tatton Park.   Son - Unmarried - aged: 20 -
occ: Labourer on Estate - born: Mobberley.    Head of household - John
Bailey - Married - aged: 46 - occ: Assistant Park Keeper - born: Mobberley.
  Also - Elizabeth Bailey - Wife - aged: 50 - born: Mobberley.   Plus 3
siblings.

He enlisted at Knutsford.

Th 7th (Service) Battalion, K.S.L.I. were formed at Shrewsbury in September
1914 as part of K3 and came under command of 76th Brigade, 25th Division. 
Moved to Codford.   Went to billets in Bournemouth in May 1915, moved to
Romsey in May then to Aldershot in June.   They landed at Boulogne on the
28th September 1915.  Brigade moved to 3rd Division on the 15th October
1915 and transferred to 8th Brigade in the same Division on the 19th
October 1915.  In 1917 They were at Arras, seeing action in the First &
Second Battles of the Scarpe (9th - 14 and 23rd - 24th April).

Listed in the RoH of the 19/04/1940 and the 21/04/1944 edition of the local
newspaper - Marsh Lane, Rostherne - perhaps his parents had retired by then
and moved to Marsh Lane?

Listed on the Altrincham & District Roll of Honour as being from Rostherne.
  Received the two basic war medals - BWM & the VM.
