the second son of George & Elizabeth Ann Billington (nee Smith).

1891 Census - 12 Avon Street, Chorlton on Medlock.    Son - aged: 2 - born:
Manchester.   Head of household - George Billington - Married - aged: 32 -
occ: Steam Engine Fitter - born: Lostock Gralam, Cheshire.   Also -
Elizabeth A. Billington - Wife - aged: 28 - born: Coppenhall, Cheshire. 
Plus 1 younger sister.

1901 Census - Manchester Road, Dunham Massey.   Son - aged: 12 - born:
Manchester.   Head of household - George Billington - Married - aged: 42 -
occ: Machinist Engineer - born: Lostock Gralam, Cheshire.   Also -
Elizabeth A. Billington - Wife - aged: 38 - born: Coppenhall, Cheshire. 
Plus 3 siblings.

Attended the Seamon's Moss School, Oldfield Brow - Lymm Grammar School and
Chester Teacher Training College.  He obtained a distinction in five
subjects at College and later became the Maths & Geography Teacher at the
Central School, Ashfield Road, Sale.

1911 Census - 14 Gladstone Road, Altrincham.  Son - aged: 22 - occ:
Assistant Teacher County Council School - born: Manchester.   Head of
household - George Billington - Married - aged: 52 - occ: Fitter at
Linotype - born: Lostock Gralam, Cheshire.   Also - Elizabeth A. Billington
- Wife - aged: 48 - born: Church Coppenhall, Cheshire.  Plus 3 siblings.

Enlisted in the RAOC August 1914 and drafted to the front in June 1915.   
Commissioned in early 1916 and attached to the R.A.F.

MIC - Enlisted as a Private - No. 3546.  Promoted to Sergeant and given a
new number - 02534.  Family home - "Cartrey", Oldfield Road, Altrincham.  
Drafted to France on 12/06/1915.   Awarded the 15 Star, the BWM and the
VM.

WO363 - Applied to join the militia on the 20th May 1907 aged 19 yrs and 7
months.   Enlisted into the AOC on 14/11/1914, aged: 26 years 95 days. 
Occupation - Schoolmaster.  Height: 5 feet 10½ inches.  Weighed 110 lb, 
Chest measurments 32/34½ inches.  Complexion - Sallow with grey eyes and
light =t brown hair Joined at Woolwich on 12/11/1914.   Appointed Lance
Corporal (without pay) on 26/11/1914.  Promoted 2nd Corporal on 18/12/1914.
 Promoted to Corporal on 26/02/1915.  Promoted Sergeant on 19/03/1915. 
Promoted A/S/CDR on 15/03/1915 and discharged on his Commission on
17/03/1915.  Service - At Home (UK) from 11/11/1914 to 11/06/1915 = 213
days.  France from 12/06/1915 to 17/03/1917 = 279 days.

The 11/12/1917 edition of the local newspaper reports that he has been
wounded and is in hospital at the front.

The 08/10/1918 edition of the local newspaper reports that he is missing
and request news of him.    It also states that he was in the R.A.F. ???
