son of Charles & Martha Bake (nee Barrow).

WO 363 - Enlisted into the 18th Bn, Manchester Rgt at Manchester on the 4th
September 1914.   He was aged 25 years, 7 months, born at Hulme and
employed as a Clerk.  He was 5 feet 4 inches in height, he weighed 130 lb
and had chest measurements of 34 - 37 inches.   He had a Fresh complexion,
Brown eyes, Black hair and his religion was Church of England.    He ws
posted to 'C' Company, 11th Platoon.  [There is a photograph of this
Company in "Manchester Regiment City Battalions 1914-1918" book.

Posted to France on the 8th November 1915.    Granted leave from the 10th
May to the 19th May 1916.   Stationed at Etaples on the 4th July 1918
Granted leave again from the 26th July to  the 5th August 1917.   Promoted
to Lance Corporal on the 19th November 1917.   Attached the the 90th
Brigade Transport on the 19th February 1918.     Posted into the 12th Bn,
Manchester Rgt on the 29th August 1918.   Admitted into the 53rd Field
Ambulance on the 1st September 1918, suffering from Diarrhea and sent back
to the 34th C.C.S. (Casualty Clearing Station).  On the 2nd September he
was sent to the 21st C.C.S. suffering from Dysentery.   On the 5th, he was
sent back to No. 16 General Hospital, then to the 52nd Stationary Hospital 
at Havre on the 6th.   Joined H Depot at Etaples on the 20th September
1918.    

Death reported in the 03/12/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

He originally enlisted in the 18th Bn Manchester Rgt and later transferred
to the 12th Bn.   Hale Cenotaph states 16th Bn.
