the son of Johathan &  Mary Brain.

Gloucestershire.    Also - Mary Ann Brain - Wife - aged: 35 - occ:
Laundress - born: Shipston on Stour, Worcestershire.  Plus 4 siblings.

1901 Census - 15 Edward Street, Sowerby Bridge, Yorkshire.   Son - aged: 15

Ann Brain - Married - aged: 42 - born: Shipston on Stour, Worcestershire.  
Plus 2 elder brothers.  No trace of his father.

Married Ethel Ann Dean Price at St. Augustine's P.C. Halifax, Yorkshire on
the 6th October 1903, the marriage being registered during the December
quarter 1903  in the Halifax R.D. - ref: 9a/769.

1911 Census - 41 Belmont Avenue, Balby, Doncaster, Yorkshire.    Head of
household - Married - aged: 27 - occ: Police Constable with West Riding
Constabulary - born: Winchcome, Gloucestershire.    Also - Ethel Brain -
Wife - aged: 26 - born: Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire.   Plus 2 young
daughters aged 1 & 2.

WO363 - Enlisted at Doncaster on the 6th June 1916.   His address was given
as 127 Balby Road, Doncaster and his occupation: Traveller, aged: 32 years
6 months.   Ethel was his next of kin, but the address is crossed out an 66
Culcheth Lane, Newton Heath. Manchester.  They had two children - Phyllis
(b.18/06/1908) and Agnes Kate (b.25/03/1910).   Posted to  Caterham on the
7th July 1916.   Appointed unpaid Lance Corporal on the 25th  October 1916.
  Posted to France the 2nd Battalion as a paid Lance Corporal on the 5th
January 1917.   Posted back home to the UK, back into the 5th Battalion on
the 6th March 1917.

He was admitted into the Dysentery War Hospital at Southampton on the 6th
March 1917, suffering from Dysentery.  Discharged on the 34th April 1917
and sent to the 'D' Division Dysentery Convalescent Hospital, New Milton,
Hampshire to convalesce.   He was discharged from there on the 25th May
1917.    Admitted into the Queen Alexandra Military Hospital Extension on
the 22nd February 1918 suffering from Tuberculosis of the lungs.

Discharged from the Army on the 17th April 1918, being no longer physically
fit for war service.  Arthur was suffering from Tuberculosis of the lungs -
100% disabled.

CWGC - Son of Mrs. Mary Ann Brain; husband of Ethel Ann Penn (???)
Quantrill (formerly Brain) of 55 Pemberton Street, Old Trafford,
Manchester.

His widow - Ethel, married Jonathan J. Quantrill in 1920.
