Born during the June quarter 1897 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/706, the only child of Thomas William & Annie Beatrice Bone (nee Sewell). 1901 Census - 23 Whitelake Avenue, Flixton. Son - aged: 3 - born: Flixton. Head of household - Thomas William Bone - Married - aged: 32 - occ: Buyer (Manchester Goods) - born: London, Middlesex. Also - Annie B. Bone - Wife - aged: 38 - born: Patricroft. Plus 4 siblings. 1911 Census - White Lake House, Flixton Road, Flixton. Son - aged: 13 - Scholar - born: Flixton. His mother - Annie Beatrice Bone - aged: 48 - born: Patricroft. Plus 3 of his maternal aunts. His father - Thomas William Bone was residing at Hampden House, Phoenix Street, St. Pancras, London on census night. Head of household - Married - aged: 42 - occ: Salesman (Manchester Goods) - born: London. This was a 400 room Masonic residential facility. Died of Spotted Fever in hospital whilst training at Crowborough on Salisbury Plain. Spotted Fever could be any number of diseases, but was most likey to have been Typhus. He attended Urmston College before moving to Manchester Grammar School where he attended from 1909 - 1912. Death reported in the 26/01.1916 edition of the Manchester Evening News. Private Gravestone with cross (now broken) in St. Michael's Churchyard. Listed as "Scout" - 1st Flixton Troop, on the Urmston & Flixton Scout's War Memorial. He is commemorated in the Manchester Grammar School Roll of Honour Book, but not on their War Memorial ?? His father - Thomas William Bone was also killed during WW1. |
